BRANDON LAWRENCE

Principal, Birmingham Royal Ballet

My name is Brandon Lawrence and I’m a Principal dancer at Birmingham Royal Ballet. After training with Penny Murray and Andie Nydza(BBOdance Scholar) in Bradford West Yorkshire I joined the Royal Ballet School aged 14 then graduated and joined BRB in 2011, reaching the rank of Principal dancer in 2019.

Over my years as a professional dancer I’ve not only had the opportunity to dance leading roles including Romeo, Colas, Prince Siegfried, Prince Florimund, the Nutcracker Prince, Albrecht and the Beast in Beauty and the beast but also dance leading roles in Les Rendezvous, Elite Syncopations, Concerto, In the upper room, Still life at the penguin cafe, La fin du jour and Carmina Burana. I’ve also been very lucky to work on new ballets with Sir David Bintley, Ruth Brill, Alexander Whitley, Diddy Veldman, Jack Lister, Juanjo Arques, George Williamson, Kit Holder, Miguel Altunaga and Jessica Lang.

I have the privilege of being able to serve on the Board of Elmhurst School for Ballet as well as being a Patron for NEBT and BBOdance for which I’ve completed their dance teacher training. I am especially proud of the new bbodance Scholars Collection that I have designed along with Dansez which helps fund scholarships for their scholars programme.

It has been a great experience to collaborate with the team at Dansez to create the BL Signature planet friendly dancewear collection, that uses recycled ocean and other nylon waste. The result is beautiful breathable regenerated fabrics that create a second skin to aide dancers and athletes to train and recover with ease. As a professional dancer and certified fitness instructor I know it’s of high importance to be able to move freely and feel good about what we wear. Sustainable and eco friendly, yet sleek and lovingly made in the U.K. by Dansez.
